Hello!
I hope you have some fun plans for the 3-day weekend! I am just going to rest and relax! We had a great week of learning in third grade! Social Studies and Math tests were taken, and the students did FABULOUS!!!! I am very proud of how hard they have been working! Some still struggled on this weeks DLR test, but some bonus sentences were given, and will come home on Tuesday. Our monthly newsletter will be e-mailed to everyone on Tuesday also. Some reminders about not talking so much, and paying attention to directions still are needed quite often, but I am hoping with another week under our belt this will begin to decrease next week! Thanks to those of you who were able to join us for Curriculum Night. If you were not able to come, the powerpoint is on my website, and I sent home the Third Grade handbook. I am working to get a leveled book list either on the website, or a link to a site where you can search for books on your own. Hopefully I will have that up early next week.
Enjoy your weekend!

Weekly Updates
Week 1 = off to a pretty good start!
Reminders for next week:
* We will have a Math test (Ch. 1) on Wed., Aug. 29th --- Study guide will come home Tues. night!
* We will have a Social Studies test (Ch.1) on Thurs., Aug. 30th ---- Study Guide is coming home today!
* Curriculum Night is Wed., Aug. 29th, at 6:30 - hope to see you all there!
Our first DLR test is coming home in the "Please Remove" section today. Some students did really well! I talked with the class about how listening, paying attention to lesson/directions, and focusing on your work will help those whose scores were not so great. This is the first of many DLR tests, and as you will be able to see, the test looks the same as the practice pages that come home during the week in the DLR section. Don't panic if your child didn't do so well on this first test, as this was the FIRST test!
Have a GREAT weekend!

Reading Rap
Ask your child tonight about the song we listened to on YouTube that helps us remember how to pick books. We are using the "I PICK" method, where each letter stands for a way to choose a book. You can find the video by googling "I Pick Books Song", and it is the rap. The kiddos voted no to singing it for me to record and post on here so... :(

Aug. 21 - Day 4
So far so good in third grade! :) The students are working hard at learning the rules and routines of our classroom and school. We are still needing some reminders to work quietly, walk in the hallways quietly, and to finish work before choosing a fun choice. However, they have really been working hard at being friends with everyone, and making everyone feel included! I am very proud of them for this!
We started Ch. 1 in Math. We are learning about the properties of addition (commutative, associative, and identity properties), reviewing fact families, and working with missing addends. Third Grade Math has TONS of new vocabulary words, and we learn a new skill daily. I will be challenging students and reteaching students as needed as we move through the chapters! Please make sure you check the math section of their expanding files for papers completed for each chapter. PLEASE keep the papers (all papers except Please Remove actually) in the expanding file, and we will empty them at school together. These papers can be used to review for upcoming tests!
Our first DLR (Daily Language Review) test will be on Friday. Mondays and Tuesdays DLR is in the expanding file to look at and review. We work on these daily pages together, and the test is completed independently.
We also began Social Studies Chapter 1 - Communities. Our test will be next week. A study guide will be coming home soon.
In writing we are working on one of the Six Traits of Writing, Gathering Ideas! We will listen to some different fiction stories, and add some ideas to our Writer's Notebooks daily! Speaking of Writer's Notebooks, they look awesome! Thanks for helping to decorate them!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Straw Towers
Check out the straw towers that we made today! We worked together in our groups to come up with a plan on how to build our tower. Then we used straws, tape, and scissors to make the tallest tower that stood for 10 seconds all by itself! Look at these great ideas below! I think we have some engineers in this class! :)
